Perseid meteor shower: more research on ancient Maya dates

Having published papers regarding possible observations by the ancient Maya astronomers of the eta Aquariid and Orionid meteor showers, Astronomer David Asher and the author are currently investigating the Perseid meteor shower. Investigating means first identifying dates in the Classic Period (AD 250~900) monumental inscriptions that occur around the third week in July (Julian calendar, Martin-Skidmore correlation), and then performing orbital integrations with each of these dates to determine the probability that a meteor outburst occurred on or near that date. It is known through historical records from China, Japan, Korea, European and other ancient cultures that four meteor showers that are seen today were seen during ancient times.
